History
“Carretteria” was not just the part of the house where carts were stored and repaired—it was also a space for preserving tools and food, naturally cool and with a constant temperature, even on the hottest summer days. These less-frequented corners of the home often became the setting for secret adventures, hosting makeshift straw beds for sleeping in the cool or, at times, for seeking privacy. The magic of these hidden places can be experienced in the “Carretteria” room of our residence.

An Open Space
The “Carretteria” room is a double-height open space with a mezzanine. The entrance leads into a cozy living area, featuring a distinctive cast-iron stove. The double bed rests against a headboard made of traditional Sicilian tiles. Two niches house the shower—separate from the bathroom—and the wardrobe. A second sleeping area with two single beds is located on the mezzanine level.
Facing the Courtyard
“La Carretteria” is the only room in the house located on the ground floor and enjoys a view of the fig tree courtyard, a symbol of SIQU.
The 32 cm Dorelan mattress with a 6 cm topper, paired with Rivolta Carmignani cotton percale sheets, ensures a comfortable night’s sleep.
600g Rivolta Carmignani cotton towels will wrap you in softness, while Ortigia Sicilia beauty products will envelop you in the scents of this beautiful land.
The size of “La Carretteria” makes it comparable to a Junior Suite Deluxe.
