Lia Calamia was born in Castelvetrano in 1954, where she lived and worked until 2017.
A self-taught artist, she began painting in the 1970s, working alongside talented painters from the Palermo school.
After years as an interior designer, she opened her own art studio in Castelvetrano in 1999, where she taught painting and decoration and carried out significant restorations—while continuing to work in interior design.
Thanks to her skill, she was recognized as a tutor by the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo.
Her first canvases reflect the colors and flavors of our land—evocative works with strong emotional impact.
A free and creative spirit, she is always seeking new forms of expression and exploring new paths, which led to the creation of the Etnosphere: works that use a simple and accessible language rooted in weaving and interlacing—shared forms of expression across cultures worldwide.
The Etnosphere works have been exhibited at the Agora Gallery in New York, the Temporary Gallery in Berlin, and the Miit – Palazzo Reale in Turin, receiving widespread praise.
